*Having grown up in a small town in New Zealand he is known for his down-to-earth and approachable nature. 

*He completed a Bachelor of Science in Brisbane before studying medicine in the Republic of Ireland. 

*After completing his internship in County Cork he returned to Australia. 

*Dr Abeyasundara gained extensive experience in Sydney at major hospitals, including Liverpool Hospital, a leading trauma centre, before completing surgical training across Queensland. 

*He has significant rural experience through the Flying Surgical Service in Roma and surrounding areas, as well as Mt Isa. 

*Passionate about improving surgical services in the Redland region, Dr Abeyasundara is excited to be part of the team that will provide after-hours Emergency Surgery at Redland Public Hospital commencing in 2026.

*He strongly values patient-centred care and is committed to delivering high-quality outcomes for his patients.
